When is the best time of the year to go to the Maldives?
One of the most common questions we get here at Wave Collective is “when is the best time of the year to go to the Maldives?” The answer to this question is not as straight forward as one might think and really depends on what you’re looking for.
There are a few factors that need to be considered when asking yourself this question.
Is the main focus of the trip to score pumping waves or is that a bonus
Are you looking for fun, clean conditions or big, heavy freight trains grinding off the reef?
Does your better half expect sunshine all day, everyday for the entirety of the trip?
If the main focus of your trip is to score big, pumping waves then June/July will produce the goods. The low pressure systems from the South generate some decent swell during the peak of the season and the chances of scoring solid waves are high. The only thing to keep in mind is that you do run the risk of the occasional storm. As you know, these go hand in hand with low pressure systems.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for fun, clean waves with a more manicured lineup then early/late (April/October) season is the go. If your partner is planning on soaking up as much sun as possible then this is definitely the better time to aim for as tropical storms are almost non existent.
So, in our humble opinion, early and late season offer the most favourable conditions as the winds are light and generally blow offshore. If you’re on the hunt for some solid ground swell, June/July will deliver the goods!
And for those of you ‘early season sceptics’ out there who still aren’t convinced, here’s the proof. We got sent this little gem from the team @niyamasurf. Shot by the very talented @hnemedia during the month of April....
