Must visit waves for Longboarder’s around the world | Travel Guide

With the current challenge the world is facing, there is still one constant people all around the world can rely on… Waves. While we struggle to come to terms with the prospect we are facing as a global community, we can continue surfing and engage with the humbling, peaceful playground that is the ocean.

We ask you to respect each other, support each other and most importantly keep a smile on your face in these times.

In the surfing community we regularly hear about the world’s most ‘iconic’ waves, whether this is on the world tour, a surf film shot with a retro filter, but every surfer will always speak highly of their home wave. Surfing provides you with the freedom of connecting with nature in a unique and personal manner. A connection which cannot be replicated by anything else. Whether you are surfing your local point break on a small day with your mates, or a packed line up at Pipeline, how it feels to drop into a 3ft party wave or a 12 ft barrel is unique to you.

Out of the personal characteristics every surf session provides, it is accepted, no matter what type of surfer you talk to, the calmest, most ‘spiritually’ engaging relationship with the ocean is attributed to the longboards. While riding a shortboard is seen as the modern way to surf, the vast proportion of surfing history is associated with the longboard; the ‘OG’ of the surfing community.

From the Hawaiian watermen in the early 20th century to the classic longboarding scene of Southern California in the 60s, and finally, to the longboarding world tour, the mythical spirituality of longboarding is here to stay.

While our local break is often more than enough to catch the childish excitement of surfing on a regular basis. Here at Wave Collective, we thought we would share with you some of the best waves around the world for longboarding.

First Point Malibu, California, USA

What people call the home spiritual home of longboarding, board shorts and open shirts in mainland America.

When surfing in California was all Longboarding and nothing else, First Point Malibu was the dream wave for surfers who we see today as trendsetters. With almost perfect symmetry and fun-sized waves, First Point is the wave we think of when someone mentions longboarding.

When you see footage of the wave or an aerial shot, it is easy for your imagination to picture what this wave, the atmosphere must have been like in the quintessential Californian summer. While today, like every point break around the world is perfect for all boards and surfers of all shapes and sizes, First Point can be defined as the ultimate party wave.

Who needs pumping swells when you can simply enjoy the beauty of surfing with your mates at such an essential spot for the history of Longboarding.

Noosa, Queensland, Australia

One of the most iconic surfing towns across the globe, Noosa is one of the core pillars of Australian surfing. When a swell arrives in town you know about it.

Up the coast from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane, the endless surfing opportunities of the Golf Coast, Noosa for many is the traditional surfing community - and for good reason.

While it is known by many as a travellers hotspot, for those venturing up and down the east coast, for surfers Noosa is a surfing mecca, with 5 world-class breaks. This relatively small town in Queensland, has a series of picturesque right-hand points, for surfers of all ability.

For a fully immersive trip into the surfing, culture and general way of life, you should and catch a ride at all of Noosa’s famous waves: First Point, Little Cove, Tea Tree and Granite Bay.

If you don't mind dodging the odd beginner and the occasional flying foamy, Batu Bolong provides longboarders with one of the best settings to ‘hang ten’ on the long rights that peel along the lava reef. Beloved by longboarders, a long time before it came a tourist hotspot, this semi-reef break provides surfers with one of the most reliable waves in Indonesia alongside one of the best backdrops in the surfing world.

If you are in the region, this break is definitely one not to miss out on. Here at Wave collective, Canggu is one of our favourite places to visit for a luxury surf trip, we are lucky enough to be partnered up with some of the best resorts in the region. For more information on what resorts we offer, why don't you go over and take a look for yourself? You won’t regret it!!

Home to many events of the European leg of the world tour, this seems the perfect wave to finish off this collection.

A perfect set of waves skimming along a series of sand banks up and down the beach, you can understand why longboarding is such a popular option in France. Providing surfers with the chance for a relaxed cruise in, or the opportunity to show off your fancy footwork up and down the lineup.
