Top 3 Best Luxury Surf Resorts in Indonesia
Planning a trip to Indo? We’ve got you covered… by a luxurious roof over your head
I hate slumming it as much as you do (I think). So in reply to your luxe desires, our team at Wave Collective have compiled a list of our top 3 Luxury Surf Resorts in Indonesia. In no particular order.
This one NEEDS to be sketched into your surf trip ‘bucket list’. Although it’s on the higher end of the price spectrum, it’s worth every penny. From an accommodation and wave perspective.
Getting There:
Arrival is at Bali's international airport, Ngurah Rai (Denpasar). Depending on your arrival time, you will either spend the night in Bali or continue with your journey to the beautiful island of Sumba that same day.
Flight from Bali to Sumba
Sumba is located 400km east of Bali. It is easily accessible by a short 50-minute flight in a Bombardier jet – thanks to Garuda Indonesia airlines.
Journey by car from Sumba airport to Nihiwatu Resort
Your journey to Nihi Sumba is a relaxing and peaceful 90-minute trip from Tambolaka airport. Along the way you leave behind the bustling streets of Bali for a more Africa-meets-Asia experience.
Waves:
Occy's Left
This is a world-class left-hander exclusive to Nihiwatu guests, with surfer numbers capped at 10 per day. This wave is incredible at any size; the bigger the better. It can get fast and hollow at low tide, with stand-up barrels on offer. The wave can be surfed on all tides and choice depends on the preferences of each individual surfer.
Accomodation:
Villa’s from $930 / night
Situated on the undisturbed Sumbanese coastline, Nihi Sumba offers a selection of luxuriously rustic villas – each with its own unique aura. The cliffside rooms are filled with natural light and offer spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.
Dining:
Nihi Sumba offers three main dining outlets where you can experience delicious local flavours and tastes, using fresh produce from their very own on site organic garden.
If you’re planning on surfing Ulu’s, Padang Padang, Impossibles or Bingin, this is the place to rest your sunburnt head.
Getting There:
Anantara Uluwatu is a short 20-minute drive from Bali's international airport, Ngurah Rai, in Denpasar. On arrival, one of the friendly resort representatives will meet you at the arrival gates with a warm welcome and escort you to your accommodation.
Waves:
Anantara Uluwatu is located in the epicentre of Bali's best left-handers. Directly in front is Impossibles. A 10-minute drive south and you'll find yourself at the world famous Uluwatu break and 10 minutes North you're at Bingin. There are options for everyone, of any skill level.
Accomodation:
Villa’s from $300 / night
Anantara Uluwatu boasts 72 ocean view suites, private pool villas and penthouses. They are all designed with a contemporary Balinese touch and are based in the heart of Bali's surfing mecca. Rooms are filled with natural light and reveal priceless views.

COMO Uma Canggu is in the heart of the most happening place in Bali. Canggu is renowned for its world class beach breaks and trendy cafes. It offers the perfect balance to satisfy your luxury, salt water and social desires.

On arrival at Ngurah Rai (Denpasar) International Airport, you will be welcomed by a COMO Uma representative, who will safely transport you and your loved ones to the resort. Como Uma Canggu could not be more central if you tried. Located in between the infamous stretch of Old Mans and Echo beach, the wide selection of reef and sand bottom A-Frames are right at your disposal.
