So when it comes to bold claims, there generally needs to be sufficient evidence to back the argument… ladies and gentleman, we might just have the facts you’ve been looking for.

There are a number of boxes that need to be ticked to back such an outrageous claim, so lets take a deep dive into why we think Lohis at Hudhuranfushi is the best surf resort in the Maldives.

1) Ease of access: Going on a mission to remote destinations while on the hunt for deserted waves is awesome but in reality if the 2 international and 3 domestic flights followed by a 14 hour boat can be avoided, sign me up. Before you start slandering and pointing fingers, remember that our team at Wave Collective appreciate the finer things in life and time in transit is not one of them.

Hudhuranfushi is located a convenient 25 minute speed boat trip from Male international airport, literally in the epicentre of some of the best waves in the Maldives such as Sultans, Cokes, Chickens, Honkeys, Jails and many more. Its a matter of grabbing your luggage (boards), hopping on the speedboat, arriving and paddling out! Doesn’t really get much better than that.

2) Waves: Hudhuranfushi is home to the world class left-hander of Lohis, widely regarded as one of the best and most consistent waves in the Maldives. A few steps from your villa and you’ll be greeted by perfectly manicured lines, one after the next peeling down the point at Lohis. If left handers aren’t your thing and you’re on the hunt for some rights, then the team will have a boat waiting for you ensuring they get you to the best waves on offer that day. Surf transfers are run twice daily so get your crew together and the skipper will be waiting for you!

3) The Surf Operation: To uphold a claim such as ‘The Best Surf Resort in the Maldives’ you need to run a pretty tight surf operation, and thats exactly what the team at Lohis do… expectations will be exceeded. In addition to Amy, Richard and their 2 year old son Curren, the team include local surf guides and photographers Ali, Smiley and Jai. You will always have one of the knowledgeable local guys right beside you to ensure you’re getting onto the best waves. With the surf office located directly on the point, between replying to emails and taking care of business Richard will poke his head out the door and fire away a 16 frame per second sequence of your wrapping roundhouse. Not to mention Ali will be right underneath you ensuring he gets the water shot! Two angles of the same turn, yes please! At one point during our trip Richard was shooting from the top of the point, Ali was in the water and Smiley was shooting further down capturing the end section. Literally had all angles covered. Oh and did we mention the live cam broadcasted directly to your room on channel 28? Perfect for those evenings when you’re too surfed out but experiencing a serious case of FOMO. Just a few of the many things that will amaze you during your time here.

4) Crowd Factor: There are very few places in the world these days that are easy to get to, have a wide variety of incredible waves as well as some of the best accomodation options whilst maintaining un-crowded lineups. Moderating the crowds at Lohis is something that Richard and the team have been working on very hard. And over the last few years have absolutely nailed the ratio. Surfer numbers at the resort are capped at 45. Yes, at first glance that might sound like a lot but think about it. 10 guys head out to surf Chickens, 10 are surfing Jails, 10 are out at Lohis for the sunrise session and the other 15 are having breakfast and in no rush as they know there will be perfect waves reeling down the point all day. So why set an alarm when you’re on holiday right? We experienced this happen first hand, this is not a theoretical situation.

5) Accomodation: If you’re going on a holiday you want options, Hudhuranfushi has just that! Whether you’re with a bunch of the boys or you’re planning on celebrating that special occasion, we will find the right accomodation option to suit your desired preferences.

• Lohis Villa: If you want to be within stones throw of the surf point then the Lohis villa is for you! Its a relatively basic set up but the location at the resort can not be beaten.

• Beach Villa: These villas are slightly further away from the point (3 min walk) but are a bit bigger and more spacious.

• Ocean Villa: The Ocean Villas are perfect if you want to make the trip extra special. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, honeymoon or anniversary these are amazing if you want to go that extra mile.

6) Non Surfing Partners: If your better half is not a keen surfer then not to worry. Hudhuranfushi have a number of things to do to ensure no one here is unsatisfied with their stay. When our better halves are not enjoying the pure relaxation of lounging around on the sun beds on the point while watching you surf past then they will no doubt be in the day spa, a yoga class, scuba diving, snorkelling, stand up paddle boarding or enjoying the many other activities at the resort. Not to mention all non-surfing partners / guests enjoy a $50 USD per day to spend as they please during their stay.
